OmniPod is an injectable insulin pump developed by Insulet Corporation in
the U.S. and approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). The system
consists of two parts, including the PDM (remote control) and the POD (pump). The
connection between the PDM and the POD eliminates the need for any catheter,
hence the name “tubeless pump”. This system injects insulin at a pre-set rate for
diabetics and, like the Medtronic and Dana pumps, is primarily used for injecting
insulin and does not have real-time ambulatory glucose monitoring (RT-CGM)
capabilities. Therefore, if you are a current Abbott Instant or Dexcom G5 user and
choose the Omnipod tubeless pump, you will still need to wear your existing
ambulatory.
wear your existing ambulatory. The Omnipod has been on the market for many years
and is a mature technology with many users.
